EM Trends Report
The EM Trends report at /reports/em-trends goes beyond individual sample records to show patterns across your entire environmental monitoring program over time.
Why EM trend analysis matters
A single sample result tells you what happened on one day in one location. A trend tells you whether your cleanroom is getting worse, whether a seasonal pattern is emerging, or whether one room is consistently closer to action limits than others. USP 797 and FDA 503B guidance expect you to proactively identify adverse trends before they become excursions.
Available chart views
By sampling pathway
Compares CFU counts across the four EM sampling methods over your selected date range:
- Active Air (RCS sampler, bioaerosol sampling)
- Settle Plates (passive 4-hour exposure)
- Contact Plates (surface sampling — benches, hoods, equipment)
- Glove Prints (personnel gowning verification)
Use this view to identify whether air quality or surface contamination is your main concern.
By season / time period
Shows monthly or quarterly average CFU counts per room. Use this to:
- Identify seasonal patterns (e.g., higher counts in summer from HVAC variability)
- Assess the impact of remediation actions (did the count drop after cleaning the HVAC filters?)
- Set realistic, facility-specific action limits based on your historical baseline
By room comparison
Side-by-side CFU count comparison across all ISO-classified rooms (ISO 5, ISO 7, ISO 8). Use this to:
- Confirm that ISO 5 counts are consistently lower than ISO 7 and ISO 8 (as required)
- Flag rooms that are trending upward relative to others in the same classification
- Prioritise which rooms need additional investigation or maintenance

Using trends for your annual EM program review
USP 797 requires an annual review of your EM program. Use this report as the primary data source:
- Set date range to the past 12 months.
- Review the by-room comparison — are all rooms within their action limits?
- Review seasonal trends — do you need seasonal action limit adjustments?
- Check the pathway breakdown — is surface or air sampling causing more concerns?
- Export as CSV and include in your annual review documentation.
