Appearance and Facility PIN

The Appearance and Facility PIN settings are the two personal settings pages in Clarix — they affect only your own account and are available to every user regardless of role. You do not need administrator access to manage these settings. Navigate to Settings in the sidebar and select either the Appearance card or the Facility PIN card.

Appearance: choosing your theme

Clarix supports three display modes:

Light mode — The default theme, with a white background and dark text. Optimized for well-lit office environments, reading printed-style content, and working at a desk workstation.

Dark mode — A dark background with lighter text. Preferred by many users for extended screen use, low-light environments, and monitoring workstations in compounding suites where bright displays may be disruptive.

System — Clarix automatically follows your operating system's display preference. If your device is set to dark mode, Clarix will display in dark mode. If you switch your OS to light mode, Clarix updates to match. This is the recommended setting if you work across multiple devices with different lighting environments.

To change your theme:

1. Navigate to Settings → Appearance.
2. Click the theme option you want: Light, Dark, or System.
3. The preview updates immediately. Your preference is saved automatically — no Save button is required.

Your theme preference is tied to your user account and will be applied on any device where you are signed in to Clarix.

Facility PIN: electronic signatures on the shop floor

Your Facility PIN is a 4-digit numeric code used to authenticate electronic signatures at specific points in the batch lifecycle. Your facility's administrator configures which lifecycle gates require a PIN (under E-Signature Settings), but the PIN itself belongs to you individually — it is separate from your account password.

Why a separate PIN?

The Facility PIN is designed specifically for production floor use. When a compounder needs to sign a batch step in the middle of a cleanroom environment, they may be gowned, may not have convenient access to their full login credentials, and the workstation may not have an internet-connected authentication flow available. The PIN provides a fast, locally-authenticated signing method that does not require a network round-trip for every signature.

Note: Your PIN is hashed using industry-standard cryptographic hashing before it is stored in the Clarix database. The plaintext value is never stored. This means even Clarix system administrators cannot read your PIN — only you know it. If you forget your PIN, you must reset it (you cannot recover it).

Setting your PIN for the first time

1. Navigate to Settings → Facility PIN.
2. Enter a 4-digit numeric PIN in the New PIN field.
3. Enter the same PIN in the Confirm PIN field.
4. Click Set PIN.

Your PIN is now active and can be used for batch lifecycle signatures that require PIN authentication.

Changing your PIN

If you believe your PIN has been compromised, or as part of regular security hygiene, you can change it at any time:

1. Navigate to Settings → Facility PIN.
2. Enter your current PIN to confirm your identity.
3. Enter your new PIN in the New PIN field.
4. Confirm the new PIN.
5. Click Update PIN.

The change takes effect immediately. Any pending batch signatures will require the new PIN.

PIN requirements

• Must be exactly 4 digits (0–9 only)
• Cannot be a sequence of identical digits (e.g., 0000, 1111) — these are rejected as insufficiently unique
• Cannot be an obvious ascending or descending sequence (e.g., 1234, 4321) — Clarix will warn you but allow you to proceed

Note: Choose a PIN that you can remember easily but that is not guessable by coworkers. Your PIN is an individual accountability measure — if someone else uses your PIN to sign a batch step, you are the person of record for that signature. Never share your PIN with colleagues.

PIN and audit trail

Every PIN-based signature generates a full audit trail entry with your identity, the record signed, the timestamp, and the IP address of the workstation. The fact that PIN was used as the authentication method is also recorded. This provides the same level of traceability as password or passkey authentication.
